What are the qualifications required to apply in different technical post?

There are various types of technical posts in Army. Nepalese citizens can apply for those posts according to their qualifications and interest. Candidates require a standard level of academic qualifications and specific proficiency in related technical field, which are as follows:

  1. Technical Officers.
    1. Doctor (Technical Lieutenant):
      • MBBS from Tribhuwan University or any other recognized university.
      • Should be member of the Medical Council.
    2. Dental Surgeon (Technical Lieutenant):
      • BDS or equivalent with biology as major subject from Tribhuwan University or any recognized university.
      • Should be member of the Medical Council.
    3. Pharmacists (Technical Lieutenant):
      • Bachelor in Pharmacy or equivalent from Tribhuwan University or any recognized university.
    4. Deputy nurses (Technical Lieutenant):
      • Graduation in Nursing from any recognized institution of Nepal government.
      • Should be member of the Nursing Council.
    5. Dietician (Technical Lieutenant):
      • Graduation on related subject from Tribhuwan University or any recognized university.
    6. Veterinary Doctor (Technical Lieutenant): BVSC and AH from Tribhuwan University or any recognized university.
    7. Civil Engineer ((Technical Lieutenant): Graduation on Civil Engineering (BE) and member of Nepal Engineering Council.
    8. Mechanical Engineer (Technical Lieutenant): Graduation on Mechanical Engineering (B E, B Sc, B Tech) and member of Nepal Engineering Council.
    9. Electronics Engineer (Technical Lieutenant): Graduation on Electronic Engineering from Tribhuwan University or any recognized university and member of Nepal Engineering Council.
    10. Electrical Engineer (Technical Lieutenant): Graduation on Electrical Engineering from Tribhuwan University or any recognized university and member of Nepal Engineering Council.
    11. Electrical and Electronic Engineer (Technical Lieutenant): Graduation on Electric and Electronic Engineering (B.E, B Sc, B Tech) from Tribhuwan University or any recognized university and member of Nepal Engineering Council.
    12. Chemical Engineer (Technical Lieutenant): Graduation on Engineering from Tribhuwan University or any recognized university and member of Nepal Engineering Council.
    13. Chemist (Technical Lieutenant): Graduation on chemistry from Tribhuwan University or any recognized university.
    14. Textile Engineer (Technical Lieutenant): Graduation on Textile Engineering from Tribhuwan University or any recognized university and member of Nepal Engineering Council.
    15. Survey Officer (Technical Lieutenant): Graduation or B Sc on Survey Engineering from Tribhuwan University or any recognized university and senior survey training or Graduation on Geography and senior survey training.
    16. Computer System Analysts and Program Analysts (Technical Lieutenant):
      • Graduation in Computer Science and Engineering from Tribhuwan University or any recognized University with Statistics, Science and Mathematics as major subjects.
      • Work experience of 1 year in system analysts or computer science.
    17. Computer System Engineer (Technical Lieutenant):
      • I Sc or Equivalent from Tribhuwan University or any recognized University.
      • M Sc (Computer Science) or BE (Computer) or BE (Electronics) and member of Nepal Engineering Council.
    18. Pilot (Technical Lieutenant):
      • Intermediate level by taking physics as major subject or 'A' level or math's in O level.
      • CPL (commercial pilot license) from recognized institution.
      • Priorities are given to those who have taken command training in helicopter or aeroplane.
    19. Aero Nautical Engineer (Technical Lieutenant):
      • Graduation in Aero Nautical Engineering and member of Nepal Engineering Council or Intermediate from any recognized university and AME license holder in any one of given subjects, i.e., engine, airframe, instrument, radio.
      • Priority will be given to those who have experience in repair and maintenance of SKY VAN and MI-17.
      • Flight Dispatcher (Technical Lieutenant):
        • Intermediate from any recognized university and FOO / ATC license holder.
        • Priority will be given to those who have worked in any airlines company as flight dispatcher.
      • Legal (Technical Lieutenant): Graduation on Law equivalent from Tribhuwan University or any recognized University.
      • Photography (Technical Lieutenant): Graduation on Photography or Graduation on any subject with two years experience in photography.
      • Telecom Engineer (Technical Lieutenant):
        • Graduation on Electronics and Telecommunication or Graduation on Electronics and Electrical.
        • Member of Nepal Engineering Council.
      • Architecture Engineer (Technical Lieutenant): Graduation on Architecture from Tribhuwan University or any recognized University and should be a member of Nepal Engineering Council.
  2. Technical Junior Commission Officer (JCOs)
    1. Overseer (Technical Subedar): Certificate level on Architecture Engineering from Tribhuwan University or any other recognized University.
    2. Draftsmen (Technical Subedar): Certificate level on Architecture Engineering from Tribhuwan University or any other recognized University.
    3. Nurse (Technical Subedar): Certificate level in Nursing from any Medical College recognized by Tribhuwan University and should have the membership of Nepal Nursing Council.
    4. Junior Mechanics (Technical Jamdar ): Certificate level in General Mechanics or Automobile Engineering from recognized educational institution.
    5. Electrician (Technical Jamdar): School Leaving Certificate and 2 years training on Electrician from recognized educational institution.
    6. General Mechanics (Technical Jamdar): Certificate level in General Mechanics or School Leaving Certificate with training in Automobile Engineering from recognized educational institution.
    7. Legal (Technical Jamdar): Certificate level in Law from recognized institution.
  3. Other Ranks
    1. Priest (Sergeant): Passed eighth class with Sanskrit as major subject of 200 full marks.
    2. Clerk (Corporal): Passed eighth class and should have the certificate of 'Nepali Typing' in computer.
    3. Mechanics(Corporal): School Leaving Certificate with Mechanics training from recognized institution or eighth class passed with 2 years working experience in maintenance field.
    4. Photographer (Technical Corporal): School Leaving Certificate and training on Photography.
    5. Offset Press (Technical Corporal):
      • School Leaving Certificate or equivalent with 6 months training on related field from recognized institution or SLC with 2 years working experience on related field.
      • Special priority is given to those having 1 year work experience on handling of Offset Press, Dark Room and Processing.
    6. Mechanics (Technical Corporal): School Leaving Certificate or equivalent with at least 12 months training on general mechanics from recognized institution of Nepal Government.
    7. Electrician (Technical Corporal): School Leaving Certificate or equivalent with at least 1 year training on related field from recognized institution of Nepal Government.
    8. Army Band (Corporal): School Leaving Certificate and able to play 'Bigul', drum, brass band and piper.
    9. Veterinary Technical (Corporal): School Leaving Certificate with training on Veterinary Laboratory.
    10. Computer Technical (Corporal): School Leaving Certificate with training of 3 months each for Office Programming (Word, Excel, Power point, MS DOS, Windows, Access) and Database. A special priority is given to those having the training on Web Page designing and Graphics.
    11. Para Folder (Corporal): Minimum eighth class passed.
    12. Recruit (Male): Fifth class passed.
    13. Recruit (Female): Eighth class passed.

What are the criteria and types of exam taken for selection of officer cadet?

Nepalese citizen meeting the following conditions are eligible to join the Nepal Army:

Condition 1: Educational qualification - Having completed Intermediate level or plus 2. Age limit - Must be 18 years, not exceeding 21 years.

Condition 2: Educational qualification - Having completed Bachelors level. Age limit - Must be 18 years, not exceeding 24 years. Besides age barrier candidates have to meet the following physical requirements:

  • Weight - 50 Kg
  • Height - 5' 3"

Candidates must complete the following physical tests:

  • Push Up - 10 times
  • Sit Up - 15 times
  • Chin Up - 3 times
  • Two mile running - Complete in 17 minutes
  • 300 meter running - Complete in 55 seconds

After passing the above tests, candidates have to go through the following written tests

  • I.Q. - 60 marks (30 minutes).
  • Written Exams- English, Mathematics & Nepali of 100 marks each (3 hours for each subject).
  • General knowledge - 100 marks (90 minutes).

Those candidates making through the written exams will appear for various types of psychological tests such as: TO (Technical Officer), GTO (Group Tasking Officer), IO (Interviewing Officer), And board Interview.

The selected candidates will under go 18-months training at Officer Cadet Training Center, situated at Kharipati, Bhaktapur.

What are the criteria to join as a recruit(male)?

Nepalese citizen should meet following criteria to join as a recruit.

  • Age - 18-22
  • Qualification - fifth standard pass
  • Weight - minimum 50 Kg
  • Height - 5' 3"
  • Push Up - 10
  • Sit Up - 15
  • Chin Up - 5
  • Two mile running - 14 minutes
  • 300 meter running - 50 second
  • Written exam - 50 marks (1 hour)

After successfully completing above exam they will under go training for 9 months.

What are the criteria to join as a recruit(female)?

Female candidates have to meet the following criteria.

  • Age - 18 to 22 )
  • Qualification - eight Standard pass
  • Weight - 40 Kg
  • Height - 4' 10"
  • Push up- 5
  • Seat up-15
  • one mile running - 11m
  • 300 meter running - 65 sec
  • Written exam of 50 full marks (1 hour)

After successfully completing above-mentioned exams candidates have to undergo nine months of training.

What are the criteria to join in the post of priest?

For the post of assistant priest sergeant candidates have to fulfill following criteria-

  • Age-18 to 25
  • Qualification-8 th standard pass (Sanskrit as major subject).
  • Weight-50 kg
  • Height-5'3"
  • Push Up-10
  • Seat Up-15
  • Chin Up-3
  • Two mile running-17 min
  • 300m running -55 second
  • Written Exam-50 marks (1 hour)
  • Exam on ritual subject-100 marks

After successfully completing above exams candidates will go for 9 months of training.

In how many peacekeeping missions Nepal Army is participating at present and total number of troops contributed?

The first UN Mission Nepal Army had participated was UNOGIL ,Lebanon in 1958, with five Military Observers. Currently, Nepal Army is contributing 3043 soldiers at 13 different missions. Total of 56,298 Nepalese soldiers have participated as peacekeepers in various countries. Unfortunately, 51 of our brave soldiers have lost their lives in the line of duty.

How many military training schools are there in Nepal Army?

Nepal Army training schools has been devised to mould the bodies and minds of the trainees to have the finest tempered steel in the first place. Culminating their ability and readiness to assume leadership in critical situations by making them physically fit and mentally alert.
