Biography of Major Yam Prasad Dhakal

Major Yam Prasad Dhakal

Major General Dhakal, NDC, PSC, MA, an alumnus of the Nepali Military Academy, was commissioned into Nepali Army in October 1989. He assumed the command of the Mid-Western Division as the Division Commander on the 16th September 2022.

Major General’s selfless service, sincere devotion and commitment to excellence are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect distinct credit upon himself and the Nepali Army.

Over 34 years of his illustrious career, his roles have been diverse and dignified. He has distinguished himself by an exceptional meritorious service both during peace and conflict at home and abroad. Major General has wide-ranging experience of various high-profile command, staff and instructional appointments. He has commanded Engineer Field Company, Infantry Company, Engineer Battalion, Infantry Battalion and Infantry Brigade under most challenging circumstances.

His significant responsibilities at Army headquarters include the Director of Public Relation and Information (DPR&I), Director of Recruitment and Selection, Director of Disaster Management and Head of Department of Combat Support and Combat Service Support (CS&CSS).

Major General Officer’s prestigious overseas appointments include; Platoon Commander in YUGOSLAVIA (UNPROFOR) in 1993, Engineer Platoon Commander in CONGO (MONUC) in 2004, Battalion Commander in HAITI (MINUSTAH) in 2007 and Observer in CONGO (MONUC) in 2009.

A graduate of Army Command and Staff College, Nepal and National Defence College, China, Major General Dhakal, throughout his exemplary career, has demonstrated dynamic leadership, outstanding professionalism and has been an advocate of subsisting modernization process of the Nepal Army.

In recognition of his dignified service, he has been awarded the prestigious "SUPRABAL JANASEWA SHREE" and other decorations and medals.

Major General Dhakal is married to Mrs. Manju Paudel (Dhakal), and the couple is blessed with one son Aayam Dhakal. An avid reader and a generous person, he loves to do extra-curricular physical activity and likes to read in his leisure time.
