BRIG GEN NARAYAN SILWAL

Brigadier General Narayan Silwal took up his current appointment on 13 January 2022. Born in 1967, Brigadier General Silwal was commissioned into the Nepali Army in 1989 after graduating from the Nepali Military Academy, Kharipati.
Brig Gen Silwal undertook several military professional courses both at home and abroad. The courses completed in Nepal include Infantry Young Officer Course, IEDD & Bomb Disposal Course, Company Commander Course, Junior Staff Course, Command and Staff Officers Course and Higher Command and Management Course. A graduate of Defense Services Staff College, Wellington, India, he is also a graduate of National Defense University, Islamabad, Pakistan. He has also taken part in Strategic Environment Scan, Seminar in NESA Center, NDU Washington DC, USA. His notable appointment includes a two-year assignment as a Senior National Representative and Strategic Analyst in United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) in Tampa, Florida, USA.
Brig Gen Silwal holds five Master’s Degrees to his credit. MSc in Construction Management from Pokhara University, MA in Strategic Studies from Tribhuvan University, MSc in Defense Studies from University of Madras, India, Master's in Security Studies (Civil Military Relation) from Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, USA and MSc in National Security and War Studies from NDU, Islamabad, Pakistan.
Brig Gen Silwal has held various Command and Staff responsibilities during his 32 years of military career. He has successfully commanded an Engineer Battalion and the an Infantry Brigade. Similarly, he has served as Deputy Chief of Staff of Valley Division. He has also served as an instructor in the Army Command & Staff College, Nepali Army War College and Engineering Training Centre.
Brig Gen Silwal has the vast experiences in the United Nations peacekeeping missions. His notable appointments in UN include Battalion Mobile Reserve Commander in UNPROFOR (former Yugoslavia), Contingent Commander in MONUC (DR Congo), Deputy MOVCON in MINUSTAH (Haiti), and Deputy Chief of JBVMM (Joint Border Verification Monitoring Mission) in UNISFA (Sudan).
His hobbies include reading military history and studying contemporary issues. He is happily married and is blessed with two daughters Ms. Shreya Silwal & Ms. Silviya Silwal and a son Vaibhav.
