BRIG GEN BIGYAN DEV PANDEY

Brigadier General Bigyan Dev Pandey took up his current appointment as Director of Public Relations and Information (DPR&I) and Spokesperson of Nepali Army on April 12, 2019. Born on April 21, 1965, Brigadier General Bigyan Dev Pandey commissioned into Nepali Army (NA) in 1988 after graduating from National Defense Academy (NDA), Khadkawasla, Pune, India.
A qualified Engineer Officer, Brig Gen Pandey undertook several military professional courses both at home and abroad. Various courses undertaken from the Nepali Army Training Institutions includes, Young Officer's Course, Junior Staff, Company Commander Courses, Command and Staff College, UN Contingent Commanders’ Course (Conducted by GPOI) and Higher Command and Management Course. He is a graduate of National War College from National Defense University (NDU), Washington D.C. (2016-2017) and Defense Service and Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, India (1999-2000). He has undergone Engineering YO's (College of Military Combat, Pune, India), Senior Command Courses (Army War College, Mhow, India) and is also a qualified Group Testing Officer (GTO) from the Defense Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR), New Delhi, India.
Brig Gen Pandey holds three Masters Degrees- Masters of Science in National Security Strategy from National Defense University (NDU), Washington D.C., and Masters in Strategic Studies from the Defense Service Staff College (DSSC), affiliated to Madras University in India and Masters in Economics from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
Brig Gen Pandey has successfully held various Command and Staff responsibilities during 33 years of military career. He has successfully commanded Narsingh Dal Independent Company, Shamsher Dal Infantry Battalion both at home and abroad in UN Mission in Congo (MONUC-2007) and 19 Brigade, an Infantry Brigade in Western Nepal. He was also posted as a Directing Staff and Senior Instructor in Army Command and Staff College (Shivapuri, Kathmandu). His notable Staff appointments include Cell Head, Contingent Owned Equipment (COE), at Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Military Assistant to the Chief of the Army Staff at Nepali Army HQs.
Brig Gen Pandey carries tremendous experience in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations. He has served under four different UN Missions, namely, Chief Military Personnel Branch (CMPO) in UN Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH-Dec 2012-Dec 2013), Battalion Commander in UN Mission in Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC-2007), Military Observer in UN Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL, 2002-2003), and Engineer Platoon Commander in UN Mission in Former Yugoslavia (UNPROFOR, 1993-1994).
He is married to Mrs. Kanchan Pandey and blessed with one daughter Aditi Pandey who is pursuing her Doctorate at Texas A & M University, USA.
