Commandant Biography

Col Indra Bahadur Shah was Born on 3rd Aug, 1965 in Dang, Nepal. He completed his schooling (SLC) from PPMV school, Bharatpur, Dang and higher education (Master's in Political Science) from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. He, psc joined the Nepali Army as an Officer Cadet in the year 25th Feb 1990 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant to the First Rifle Battalion in 6th June 1991. He assumed the command of the High Altitude and Mountain Warfare School in January 2020.

His military education includes Young Officer's Course, High Altitude and Mountain Warfare Basic and Advance Course, Company Commander and Staff Course. Among others, he is a graduate of Army Command and Staff College, Shivapuri Nepal. In addition to the basic and other various adventurous military courses. He has attended the Senior Civil Staff Officers Course at Civil Staff College, Jawalakhel Kathmandu. He has also attended other foreign courses like United Nation Staff Course (UNSOC) in 2016 at China and Advance Security Co-Operation Course (ASC 19-12) in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2019.

Colonel Shah, in his career span of thirty years has served in all the diverse terrains of the country and has actively participated in mountain warfare activities. He has successfully commanded Shree Singha Sardul independent Infantry Company as well as Shree Surya Dal Infantry Battalion on 2004 and 2011 respectively. He also has held the staff appointments in Army HQ in Operation Branch, the key appointments of Operation Officer (Ops) of Div HQ, an Infantry Brigade and all the staff appointments in the Battalion. In addition, he has held the Instructor appointments in High Altitude and Mountain Warfare School for Armed Forces of Nepal.

He has served in various UN missions that includes UNAMSIL in Sierraleon in 2002 as MIO, UNIFIL in Lebnon as Planning Officers in Force HQ Staff in 2006, MINURCAT in Tchad as COE inspector in 2009, UNNISS in South Sudan as Commanding Officer of a Battalion from 2014 to 2016, UNIFIL in Lebanon as a Chief Protocol of the mission in 2017. He has been decorated with various medals and decorations which includes Deergha Sewa Padak and COAS commendation medal for his meritorious services in the Army.

He is married to Sadhana Malla Shah and they are blessed with one son and one daughter.
