About Nepali Army War College

Training
  1. The early stage of the Nepali Army war college dates back to 1952 with the motto ( हे वीर! हिंड अघि सरी ), "The Brave Leads the Way". The then Army school was initially established in Chhauni, Kathmandu with a view to train officers and other ranks in weapon and tactics. In 1958, the School shifted to Nagarkot Barracks and Nepal Army started conducting professional Military courses.
  2. During the period between 1958 (2015 BS) to 1986 (2043 BS), various locations of the college were as follows.

(a)      1963 (2019 BS) till 1966 (2023 BS) at Suping, Bhimphedi of Makwanpur district.

(b)     1966 (2023BS) till 1972 (2029 BS) relocated again at Nagarkot Barracks.

(c)      1972 (2029BS) till Dec 29, 1986 (14 Paush 2043BS) at Kharipati Barracks, present day location of Nepalese Military Academy, with a wing at Nagarkot.

(d)     Dec 29, 1986 (14 Paush 2043BS) Nepalese Military Academy and the Army School was separated and the School since then has been permanently located at Nagarkot Barracks.

  1. Army School was officially renamed as “The College of Combat” on 17 July 2015 (01 Shrawa n 2072). Again with the decision laid by Cabinet of Ministry on 04 Falgun 2073, The College of Combat again has been upgraded to Nepali Army War College from Feb 2016 as it is known today.
  2. Since, the War College is continually conducting the Company Command and Staff Course (CCSC) and Unit Command and Staff Course (UCSC), the college has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the courses for senior officers such as Higher Command and Management Course (HCMC), thus becoming the apex training institution of the Nepali Army.

About Nagarkot

  1. Nagarkot which is a touristic destination with wonderful salubrious climate all year round, is located just about 32 km East of the capital city Kathmandu. “Nagarkot” means the ‘Fort of the City’ because of its strategic location. During the medieval period Nagarkot was an administrative centre of the Kathmandu responsible for collecting tax from traders moving to and from the valley and also to regulate migration. It could effectively monitor the trade route between Kathmandu and Tibet.    Many of the old buildings located here like Bhangeri and Putali Durbar were built by Rana Prime Minister, Chandra Shamsher JBR as a summer retreat.
  2. From Nagarkot, one can see the majestic portion of the Himalayas stretching from Annapurna in the West and Mt Everest to the East. Since 1960s, Nagarkot has become one of the popular tourist destinations in Nepal where visitors stay one to two nights to see the sunrise and sunset or go for a hike.

Roles and Responsibility
