COAS Gen Gurung departs for the United States of America on an official visit

1. COAS Gen Chatra Man Singh Gurung has departed for the United States of America on 26 March 2011 upon an official invitation of the Government of the United States of America. 2. COAS Gen Gurung was seen off at the Tribhuvan International Airport by COS Lt Gen Toran Jung Bahadur Singh in the presence of HE Scott H. Delisi, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Nepal, General Officers of the Nepalese Army and the resident Defence Attachés of various nations in Nepal. 3. The visit itinerary of Gen Gurung is as follows: a. Call on Gen George W Casey, Jr Chief of Staff of the US Army and Lt Gen Charles H Jacoby, Jr. Director Strategic Plans and Policy at Pentagon on 4 April 2011. b. Attend the ceremony for the induction into the Hall of Fame, Command & Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 7 April 2011. Gen Gurung attended Command & General Staff Course in this institution in 1985/86 along with 99 International Student Officers from 66 nations, out of whom Gen Gurung is the 5th person to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. c. Call on Mr Robert Scher, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Southeast Asia / Mr Derek Mitchell, Principle Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian & Pacific Security Affairs at the Pentagon on 8 April 2011. Call on Dr. Alyssa Ayres, Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia on the same day at the Department of State. d. Whilst on the visit, Gen Gurung will also call on high level officials at the UN HQ, New York on 31 March and 1 April 2011. 4. During his absence from office, COS Lt Gen Singh will officiate as the acting COAS. 5. COAS Gen Gurung will be accompanied by his spouse Mrs Kamala Gurung and one staff officer. The delegation will be returning to Nepal on 10 April 2011.
