Chief of Army Staff General Gurung departed to attend PACC-VII

Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) General Chattra Man Singh Gurung left for Singapore today to participate in the 7th Pacific Armies Chief’s Conference (PACC- VII) co-hosted by US Army and Singapore Armed Forces from July 28 to July 31, 2011. CoAS General Gurung was jointly invited by US Army Chief General Martin E. Dempsey and Singapore Armed Forces Chief Major General Chan Chun Sing. PACC is a biennial multinational military conference providing the forum for regional (Asia-Pacific) Chiefs of Army to exchange views, establish and enhance institutional relationship and foster security cooperation. During his visit, he will also attend the 35th Pacific Armies Management Seminar (PAMS –XXXV) in Singapore and also participate in various other programmes. During the conference, Gen Gurung will interact with the Army Chiefs and representatives of USA, China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Canada, South Korea, Thailand, Maldives, Srilanka, Malaysia and Singapore on issues of bilateral co-operation. Chief of Staff (CoS) Lt Gen Gaurav Shumsher JB Rana, First Secretary of US Embassy to Nepal Timothy P. Trenkle bid adieu to CoAS. During the farewell occasion, Generals of Nepalese Army and Military Attachés of foreign embassies were also present. During his absence, Chief of Staff Lt Gen Gaurav Shumsher JB Rana will take up the responsibility of Acting Chief of Army Staff. The visiting members are the CoAS Gen Gurung, his spouse Mrs. Kamala Gurung and a Staff Officer. The team will return on August 03, 2011.
