Chief of Army Staff General Gurung Returns Home

1. Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) General Chhatra Man Singh Gurung returned home on November 6, 2011 from his week-long official visit to The People’s Republic of China. General Gurung was invited by General Chen Bingde, Member of Central Military Commission and Chief of the General Staff. 2. Upon his arrival in China, a guard of honor by troops from Chinese Army, Naval Force and Air Force was presented to CoAS Gen Gurung at the Chinese Army Headquarters. 3. On October 31, 2011, CoAS General Gurung signed the protocol with Chinese Army Chief General Chen Bingde, to provide 40.9 million Yuan (NRs.60 Crore 27 Lakhs) of Medical equipments to NA Military Hospital at Chinese Army HQ. 4. On November 1, 2011, CoAS Gen Gurung held meeting with CMC Vice-Chairman Gen Xu Caihou at Bayi Army HQ. 5. During his trip, CoAS Gen Gurung visited the No. 3 Division of Beijing Garrison, National Defense University (NDU), Chinese Military Hospital and Kunming Military Academy. He attended a reception organized by Chinese Army Chief General Bingde and CMC Vice-Chairman General Caihou. Nepalese Ambassador to China HE Tanka Prasad Karki was present during the reception. He also attended separate receptions organized by Zhenjiang Provincial Military Command and Yunnan Provincial Military Command. 6. Chief of Staff (CoS) Lt. General Gaurav SJB Rana welcomed CoAS Gurung in the VIP lounge at Tribhuwan International Airport. A unit of NA troops presented the ‘Guard of Honor’ to the CoAS Gen Gurung. Generals and high ranking officers of the NA and resident Defence Attachés of various nations in Nepal were also present on the occasion. 7. The six-member delegation team had departed to China on October 30, 2011.
