Rt Honorable President confers honorary rank of General to the visiting Indian Army Chief

1. Right Honorable President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav conferred honorary rank of General to the visiting Indian Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh amid a special ceremony held at Presidential House, Sital Niwas on July 11, 2012. During the ceremony, Rt Honorable President presented the insignia of General, sword and certificate to the Indian Army Chief. 2. The tradition of conferring the visiting Indian Army Chiefs with the honorary rank of General started with the then Commander-in-chief, General Kondandera Madappa Carippa in 1950 AD. 3. Gen Singh also called on Honorable Prime Minister and Defence Minister today at his office. The Indian Ambassador to Nepal and Chief Liaison Officer were also present during the meeting. 4. Earlier, Gen Singh visited Nepalese Military Academy, Kharipati and observed various demonstration presented by the cadets. Likewise, he visited the Birendra Peace Operation Training Center (BPOTC), Panchkhal, Kavre. During the visit, the Commandant of BPOTC briefed about the various trainings being conducted at the training centre. 5. Later in the evening, Gen Singh will attend a banquet hosted by CoAS Gen Chhatra Man Singh Gurung at the Army HQ premises.
