1. A regional level United Nations Peacekeeping Operations Contingent Commander Course (PKOCC) organized by the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI), began on 5th Dec 2010 in Kathmandu. 2. The Director General of Military Training, Major General Anil Jung Thapa inaugurated the course at a ceremony held in Hotel Yak and Yeti. Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Thapa said that courses of such a kind bear tremendous significance in the peacekeeping operations, especially in the modern day complex peacekeeping environments. 3. On the occasion, Director of Peace Keeping Operations, Brigadier General Shyam Bahadur Thapa Magar and the Director of Training, GPOI, highlighted on the importance of the course. 4. A total of 30 student officers are participating in the course, which includes 13 foreign officers from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines and Thailand. The course which ends on 16 December 2010, will be conducted by six Subject Matter Experts from the GPOI.
