Chief of Staff ( CoS ) Lt. Gen Netra B. Thapa inaugurated the Senior Training Seminar (STS) amid a special function organized at the premises of Army HQ on 24 Mar 013. STS is part of Ex. Shanti Prayas - 2 jointly organized by NA and USPACOM under
the Global Peace Operations Initiative Program (GPOI).
Speaking during the seminar, Gen Thapa expressed that these types of Seminar would assist in bringing about concrete recommendations for shaping the training modalities of the centers and to strengthen their capacities for effective peacekeeping training.
The Seminar focuses on providing up to date information on Peace Keeping training requirements and also addressing key challenges facing UN missions and identify recommendations for improvements in training to enhance mission performance.
During the Seminar, Indian Army Lt. Gen( Retd. ) RK Mehta, former Military Advisor to the Secretary General and NA Lt. Gen ( Retd. ) Pawan Jung Thapa, formor Froce Commander of UNMIS, made presentations highlighting the different dynamics of present Peace Support Operations and its challenges. They also shared their experiences
during their tenure with the UN.
The STS which is being conducted form 24-26 Mar, has 30 participants from 10 different Regional Peace Keeping centers to include Nepal, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Srilanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
