Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Gaurav SJB Rana departed for the official visit of Madives and Srilanka on January 28, 2014.
COAS Rana was bid adieu by CGS Lt Gen Pawan Bahadur PandÃ© at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). A troop of Nepalese Army paid a Salute of Honour to COAS Gen Rana at the VVIP lounge at TIA. Srilankan HE Ambassador to Nepal, high ranking officers, Acting Defence Secretary and residential Defense Attaches were present during the occasion.
COAS Rana left for the Maldives on the formal invitation of the Chief of National Defense Army of the Maldives, Major General Ahammad Siyam. CoAS Rana would call on the President, Defense Minister and Chief of Defense Army of the Maldives.
Likewise, Rana is scheduled to visit Srilanka from February 1-6 at the formal invitation of Chief of Srilankan Army Lt Gen RMD Ratnayeke. During his visit, COAS Rana would attend the parade and â€˜Deyeta Kirula National Exhibition 2014â€™ organised on the 66th National Independence Day of Sri Lanka. During his visit to Sri Lanka, CoAS Rana is also scheduled to meet chiefs of Land Force, Air Force and Defense Force along with the Defense Secretary.
COAS Rana is the first Army Chief to visit officially in the islanded countries of South Asia which is aimed to foster relations between the contemporary SAARC partners. The visit will also endeavor the positive impact on the diplomatic and foreign relations between the neighbours.
COAS Rana is accompanied by QMG Major General Rajendra Chhetri and ADC to COAS Major Gelang Lama. COAS Rana will return home on February 7.
CGS Lt Gen Pawan Bahadur PandÃ© will be the officiating COAS in Gen Ranaâ€™s Absence.
