COAS General Gaurav SJB Rana returned from his official visit of Maldives and Srilanka on Feburary 7, 2014. COAS Rana had left for the regional visit on the invitation of Chief of National Defense Army of the Maldives, Major General Ahammad Siyam and Chief of Srilankan Army Lt Gen RMD Ratnayeke on January 28, 2014. CGS Lt Gen Pawan Bahadur Pande welcomed COAS Gen Rana at the VVIP Lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport. COAS Gen Rana received a "Guard of Honor" from a troop of the Nepalese Army. High Ranking Officers of the Nepalese Army and the resident Defense Attach s of foreign embassies to Nepal were present at the occasion. During his formal visit of Maldives, COAS Rana called on the Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen, Minister of Defense and National Security Mohammed Nazim and Chief of National Defense Army of the Maldives, Major General Ahammad Siyam. COAS Rana visited Srilanka after the tour of Maldives and attended the parade organized on the 66th National Independence Day of Srilanka at Kegalle, as the Honored Guest. During his visit to Sri Lanka, COAS Rana called on Secretary of Ministry of Defense and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa,Chief of Defence Staff General Jagath Jayasuyra, Commander of the Srilankan Army Lt Gen RMD Ratanayke and Commander of Navy Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombaga. COAS Rana's official visit is the first of its kind to the islanded countries of South Asia which is aimed to foster relations between the contemporary SAARC neighbours. The visit has also created the positive impact on the diplomatic and foreign relations between the regional counterparts.
