1. Nepalese Army ‘Ex-Servicemen Gathering (Eastern Region)-2071’ was organized by the Nepalese Army in conjunction with the Nepalese Army Welfare Board (NAWB) starting from May 20 which ended on May 22, 2014. The gathering is second of its kind in which a large number of Ex-Servicemen and their dependents from various districts of the Eastern Development Region had fulsomely participated. 2. General Gaurav SJB Rana, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), graced both the inauguration ceremony functions separately organized at Dharan & Itahari; and also the closing ceremony of the gathering at Hile, Dhankuta. During his visit, COAS Gen Rana had enthusiastically interacted and addressed the Ex-Servicemen. While addressing the gathering, COAS Gen Rana had assured Ex-Servicemen and their dependents that the Army would take all steps to improve existing welfare activities. He had highlighted the steps taken by the Nepalese Army on increasing income generating activities from the existing welfare fund and increasing the volume of welfare activities. Army stays committed in identifying new welfare schemes and implementing them. 3. During his visit, COAS Gen Rana had laid foundation stone for regional office (Epicentre) building of the NAWB in Thalaha, Morang. The epicenter aims to be the primary point of contact for all Ex-Servicemen of Eastern Nepal. Free medical camps were also conducted in different parts of the Eastern Development Region coinciding with the there-day-long gathering. 4. Present during the visit were Chief of the General Staff Lt Gen Pawan Bahadur Pande, Executive Officer of the NAWB Lt Gen (Retd.) Chitra Bahadur Gurung, Lt Gen (Retd.) Krishna Narayan Singh Thapa, Lt Gen (Retd.) Phatte Bahadur Limbu, Lt Gen (Retd.) Dilip Karki and other high ranking officials of the Nepalese Army.
