Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Rajendra Chhetri returned for the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on January 25, 2018. Chief of the General Staff (CGS) Lt Gen Purna Chandra Thapa welcomed him at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). A troop of Nepali Army presented the Guard of honour to COAS Gen Chhetri after his arrival at TIA. General Officers of Nepali Army, HE Ambassadors of Sri Lanka and Thailand to Nepal and Military Attachés of foreign embassies in Kathmandu were present during the occasion.
During his nine-day stay in Sri Lanka, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Rajendra Chhetri paid a courtesy call on HE Pallewatte Gamaralalage Maithripala Yapa Sirisena, the Right Honourable President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, at the President’s House on January 19, 2018. Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army was also present during the call-on.
On the same day, COAS General Rajendra Chhetri had separate courtesy audiences with Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Mr Kapila Waidyaratne PC and Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne in their respective offices.
Likewise, COAS General Chhetri visited the Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarters on January 18, 2018 and met Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy, commander of Sri Lanka Air Force. Similarly, he also visited Sri Lanka Naval Headquarters on January 19, 2018 and met Vice Admiral Sirimevan Sarathchandra Ranasinghe, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy. On January 20, 2018, COAS General Chhetri paid a formal visit to the Security Force Headquarters – Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) as part of his itinerary in Sri Lanka.
COAS General Chhetri departed for the Sri Lanka visit on an official invitation from Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, on January 17, 2018.
