"Maha Shivaratri and Army Day-2074" was celebrated amid a spectacular ceremony held at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel on February 13, 2018. The Chief Guest of the ceremony, Right Honourable President and Supreme Commander of Nepali Army (NA) Mrs. Bidhya Devi Bhandari paid homage to the martyrs at the "Bir Smarak" before receiving the "Guard of Honour" by a troop of Nepali Army.
The ceremony was carried out in five phases. In the first phase, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Rajendra Chettri presented the colours to Number Two Jagadal Battalion, Number Three Jagadal Battalion and Gorakh Kali Company. He also awarded the award the chief of the army staff banner for Operation Readiness Inspection champion to Durga Box Battalion battalion.
In the second phase, the traditional, the celebratory firing from rifles and canons, March past, military skills and drills were demonstrated by various units and formations from across the Nepali Army. The signifying banner of Army Day 2018 and showering of flowers were displayed by the helicopters of Nepali Army. With the coordination of the Valley Division, Number One Brigade, Naya Shreenath Battalion, Rana Bhairab Battalion, Ganeshdal Battalion, Nepal Calvary, Gorkha Regiment Band India, Brigade of Gorkha Band UK, Nepali Army Band, Mahabir Ranger Regiment, Krishnadal Battalion, Shree Jung Battalion and Shiddhi Box Battalion presented an impressive march-past. The march-past was followed by the display of Armored Protected Vehicles (APCs), Mine Protected Vehicles (MPVs), Ferret Cars, Artillery equipment, Signal, Development & Construction and Mobile Hospital.
The Para training school conducted a free fall jump demonstration by experienced jump masters in two sticks with National flag of Nepal, flag of the Chief of the Army Staff and flags marking divisions of Nepali army. In the third phase, various military arts and skills were demonstrated. Under this, demonstrations of Military Tattoo and demonstration of Women Synchronise drill were presented.
In the fourth phase, display of various arts was followed by spectacular fireworks. Mahabir Ranger Regiment demonstrated Khukuri Marshall Art. A musical drama- untamed saga of Nepali Army- was performed. In the final phase, the Chief Guest, the Right Honourable President and Supreme Commander of Nepali Army Mrs. Bidhya Devi Bhandari, unveiled the Nepali Army annual journal “Sipahi 2074” and also distributed prizes to the winners of the Free Fall Jump and presented memento to the senior Band member of Gurkha Regiment Band India, Brigade of Gorkha Band UK.
Every year, the Nepali Army celebrates the 'Army Day' on the auspicious occasion of "Maha-ShivaRatri." The Nepali Army marks Army day, reaffirming its devotion to the people and the nation, reflecting its organizational unity, characterized by patriotism and military professionalism.
