The Ser. No. 5 Higher Command and Management Course (HCMC) commenced amid a special opening ceremony held at Valley Division Headquarters, Kathmandu on March 18, 2018. The Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lieutenant General Purna Chandra Thapa graced the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest. The three-month course is being attended by 29 student officers of the Nepali Army in the ranks of Colonel at Nepali Army War College, Nagarkot.
Addressing the ceremony, CGS Lt Gen Thapa extended his congratulations to the participating officers for being selected to attend the course. Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Thapa reminds that the Higher Command & Management Course was started with the aim of enhancing professional military education of the senior officers as a precursor to establish National Defence University.
Lt Gen Thapa further added "it is important to shape the mind of the future senior leaders like you by complementing your professional military skills with a balanced doze of professional military education. The need to develop professional officers well-grounded in both the theory of war and operational art is the primary reason why HCMC was introduced."
He expressed his confidence that the Nepali Army War College, under the direct supervision of Director General of Military Trainings & Doctrine (DGMT & D) and Directing Staffs will tailor valuable knowledge to meet the stated objective of the course.
Chief Instructor (CI) of the course, Major General Sashi Chandra Bahadur Singh delivered the welcome speech at the beginning of the ceremony.
Also present at the programme were serving and retired General officers of NA, ex-commandant of the Nepali Army War College, faculty members & officers of NA.
