COAS Gen Rajendra Chhetri departed for Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) on Monday (April 02, 2018) for inspection visits of Nepali Army contingent deployed in DR Congo and South Sudan. After his visit to DR Congo, COAS Gen Chhetri is scheduled to visit South Sudan on April 06, 2018.
During his visits, COAS Gen Chhetri will receive briefings on various issues of the Nepali peacekeeping mission including current situation, operational preparedness and logistic among others.
While in DR Congo, COAS Gen Chhetri will call on Brig Gen Ihteshamus Samad Choudhury, Brigade Commander Ituri Brigade on April 04, 2018. On the same day, he will have interaction with Mr Salami Adam, Acting Head of Office and Colonel Vusi David Madeko, Deputy Force Intervention Brigade Commander. On April 05, 2018, COAS Gen Chhetri will call on Brigadier General Vuvek Tyagi, Commander Central Sector. Later on the same day, COAS Gen Chhteri will meet Nepali Civilian Staff working in MONUSCO.
Likewise, COAS Gen Chhetri, whilst in South Sudan, will call on Mr David Shearer, Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) and Lieutenant General Frank Mushyo Kamanzi, Force Commander UNMISS on April 07, 2018 in separate meetings. Similarly, on April 08, 2018, Gen Chhetri will have separate meetings with General James Ajonga Mawut Unguec Ajonga, Chief of Defense Forces of South Sudan and Major General Matur Chut Dhuol, Governor of Western Lake State- Rumbek.
The four-member delegation led by COAS Gen Chhetri will return home on April 09, 2018. During his absence, Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lieutenant General Purna Chandra Thapa will be the officiating COAS of Nepali Army.
