Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Purna Chandra Thapa concluded his six-day-long formal India visit and returned home on Wednesday (January 16, 2019). Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lieutenant General Hemanta Raj Kunwar welcomed him at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). A troop of NA presented the 'Guard of Honour' to COAS Gen Thapa after his arrival. Generals and high ranking officers of the Nepali Army were also present on the occasion.
Rt. Honorable Indian President Shri Ram Nath Kovind conferred the Honorary Rank of General of the Indian Army to COAS Thapa in the Investiture Ceremony held at the Presidential Palace on January 12, 2019. It is in line with the tradition of exchanging honorary titles between chiefs of army in Nepal and India.
During his India visit, COAS Thapa called on General Bipin Rawat, COAS of Indian Army at the latter’s office in New Delhi. Likewise, COAS General Thapa visited National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi, South Western Command, Jayapur and Central Command, Lucknow.
COAS Gen Thapa left for India on January 11, 2019 at an official invitation extended by his Indian counterpart General Bipin Rawat, COAS Indian Army.
