The "COAS Trophy 2077" kicked off at the Nepali Army Headquarters Sports Arena on January 06, 2021. Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Purna Chandra Thapa inaugurated the sports meet amidst a special function. 

Director General of Military Training & Doctrine (DGMT&D), Major General Niranjan Kumar Shrestha delivered the welcome speech followed by a spectacular Band display by the Nepali Army Band.

Altogether fifteen teams of the Nepali Army including eight Infantry Divisions, five Combat Support Brigades, and one Special Forces Brigade are competing for the "COAS Trophy 2077". The sports feast includes events like Athletics, Shooting, Volleyball, Basketball and Football. 

Former Chief of the Army Staffs of Nepali Army, high ranking officials of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, Member Secretary and officials from National Sports Council (NSC), serving and retired high ranking officials of Nepali Army and media personnel were present during the opening ceremony.

COAS Trophy was first introduced in 2065 B.S., with an aim to enhance esprit de corps among the participating units and to produce quality athletes and sportsmen that are able to represent the Nepali Army in national and the country in international platform. Nepali Army believes that this kind of event is helpful in the sustainable development of sports in Nepal.
