General Prabhu Ram Sharma, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Nepali Army, departed for Delhi today on a four-day visit to India. Vice COAS Lt Gen Bal Krishna Karki bade farewell to COAS Gen Sharma at the Nepali Army Mid-Air base, Gauchar. The Government of Nepal has already approved of the visit in response to an official invitation extended by General Manoj Mukund Naravane, Chief of the Army Staff, Indian Army. Ms. Sunita Sharma, General Sharma’s spouse and the chairperson of the Nepali Army Wives Association (NAWA), is accompanying him.
On 8th Nov 2021, a day prior to his departure, COAS Gen Sharma was accorded a Guard of Honor at the Army headquarters. Ambassador of India to Nepal His Excellency Vinaya Mohan Kwatra, General Officers of the Nepali Army and residential Defense Attaches were present during this official farewell Programme.
COAS General Sharma will be conferred upon the rank of an honorary General of the Indian Army by HE Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India, on 10th Nov, 2021 amidst an investiture ceremony.
During his stay in India, COAS General Sharma is scheduled to hold meetings with Secretary of Defence Mr Ajay Kumar, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Bipin Rawat, Chief of the Army Staff Gen MM Naravane and Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary.
During his absence, Vice COAS Lt Gen Bal Krishna Karki will be the officiating COAS of the Nepali Army. Gen Sharma will be returning to Nepal on 12th Nov 2021.
