Amid a spectacular ceremony held at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel on February 18, 2023, Mahashivaratri and the 260th Raising Day of the Nepali Army was celebrated. The Chief Guest of the ceremony, Rt. Hon’ble President and Supreme Commander of Nepali Army (NA) Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari paid homage to the martyrs at the Bir Smarak before receiving the Guard of Honour by the troop of the Nepali Army.
The Chief Guest, the Rt. Hon’ble President and Supreme Commander of the Nepali Army Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari unveiled the Nepali Army annual journal Sipahi & History of Nepali Army (1872-2007) and also awarded the winners of the Free Fall Jump and presented mementos to Indian Army and British Army Wings.
The signifying banner of the 260th anniversary of the Nepali Army and flower shower were displayed by the helicopters of the Nepali Army. Firing from rifles and canons, march-past, traditional dance, military skills and drills were demonstrated by various units and formations.
Impressive march past was displayed by various units during the event along with the performance of Band by the Nepali Army Band, the Eleventh Gorkha Rifle Regimental Centre of the Indian Army and the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas (British Army).
The march-past was followed by the display of Artillery, Combat Engineers, Signal, Air Defence, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), Mine Protected Vehicles (MPVs), United Nations Peacekeeping Mission, Banner of Nature Conservation, Banner of Engineers, Banner of Corpse of Engineering, Military Workshop Van and Banner of Defence Production and EME
During the special ceremony, Mr. Sagar Katwal, the representative of the World Book of Records, handed over the Provisional Certificate of the world record to COAS Gen Prabhu Ram Sharma for the performance of the Madal by 555 (Five Hundred and Fifty-Five) Nepali Army personnel.
Hon’ble Vice President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Speaker of the National Assembly, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ministers, heads of various constitutional bodies, secretaries of the Government of Nepal, heads of other security agencies, distinguished officials of the Government of Nepal, His Excellency Ambassadors, former COASs, former COASs of the Indian Army, serving and Retired generals and officers, military attachés from different countries and media persons were also present at the event.
Later at the ceremony, Gen Sharma awarded COAS Commendation Badge and Appreciation Letters to national and foreign dignitaries and organizations for providing support to the Nepali Army and for excellent contributions in their respective fields.
On the occasion of the 260th anniversary of the Nepali Army, all units of the Nepali Army deployed in different places of the country and abroad celebrated the 260th-anniversary organizing various programs.
