15th Annual Asia-Pacific Chiefs of Defense (CHOD) Conference

Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS), General Gaurav SJB Rana left for Australia on 3rd November 2012 to attend the 15th Annual Asia-Pacific Chiefs of Defense (CHOD) Conference. The conference organized jointly by US Pacific Command (US PACOM) and Australian Defense Force began on 5th November and concluded on 8th November 2012 at Sydney. The conference was attended by Army Chiefs of 27 countries. Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lt. General Nepal Bhusan Chand bade farewell to CoAS Rana at Tribhuwan International Airport. Generals and high ranking officers of the NA were also present on the occasion. On 5th November, CoAS Gen Rana called on Malaysian Army Chief General Tan Sri Dato' Sri Zulkifeli Bin Mohd Zin. During the meeting, they discussed on multilateral issues. During the discussion, Gen. Rana invited a platoon from the Malaysian Defense Force to participate in Exercise 'Shanti Prayas-2' (CAPSTONE Exercise 2013) to be held in Nepal. His counterpart also invited Gen. Rana to attend the 'Defence Services Asia Exhibition and Conference 2013' to be held in Malaysia from 16 – 19 Apr 2013. On 6th November, CoAS Gen Rana met with USPACOM commander, Admiral Samuel J. Locklear III. He also met with the Army Chiefs of Japan, Canada, Australia, Bangladesh, Maldives and Chairman of Joint Chief of Staff of Pakistan the same day. During the meeting, they discussed on multilateral issues and current situation of the Asia-Pacific region. Similarly on 7th and 8th November, CoAS Gen Rana met up with this counterparts from Britain, Srilanka, South Korea and Thailand. The conference with the motto "Two Oceans, One Region: Strengthening Security in Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean" will help to enhance the military diplomacy and foster military relations between the participating countries. CoAS Gen Rana returned home from Australia on 10th November. CGS Lt Gen Nepal Bhusan Chand received CoAS Gen Rana at TIA VVIP lounge. The next conference is scheduled to be held on 2013 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
